The Challenge 42, aka The Challenge: Cutthroat marks Nelson “Nelly T” Thomas’ first season competing since The Challenge: World Championship in 2023, following a car accident that same year that led to the amputation of his right leg. Now back in the game, Thomas is opening up in the cast’s interview with BLKCinema.com about what his return to the franchise represents, saying his comeback is about far more than the competition itself.
Why does Nelson Thomas say his return to ‘The Challenge’ matters?
He said stepping back into the competition carries a purpose beyond his own game.
“Coming back this season meant the world to me, but it was never just about me. This was about everyone out there looking for hope, looking for that second chance and showing people that there is light at the end of the tunnel,” he said. “You know, these were never in the cards for me. I never saw myself going back on a challenge. But I fought through adversity and to show people that if you don’t give up and you keep the faith, you can achieve anything regardless if you’re having a limb loss or an amputee. So coming back to this season is bigger than me. It’s for everyone out there.”
What does he hope people take from his story?
Thomas said he wants his journey to reflect resilience and accountability, particularly for anyone facing their own hardship.
“One of the biggest things I hope is to show people resilience, perseverance, and faith and taking accountability and showing that you don’t let your choices define who you are,” he said. “You know, I think a lot of people thought that me losing my leg, that it was going to end life for me. And it did at one point. I was lost that one minute and I didn’t know to go left or go right, but I didn’t give up and I kept going. And that’s why I want to show people out there, as long as you keep striving for what you want in life, you know, you can have your dreams. You can do what you want to do regardless, and don’t let anyone knock you for chasing your dreams.”
