The Challenge 42, aka The Challenge: Cutthroat‘s Anna Leigh Wilson is setting the record straight on the coughing fit that got Team Blue disqualified during Episode 2’s “If You Know, You Know” daily challenge, admitting she unknowingly tipped off the other team to her own strategy. It marked the second time Team Blue was disqualified during the challenge, after Cara Maria Sorbello was unable to hold back her cries during an earlier heat and got the team DQ’d once already.
What does Anna Leigh Wilson say caused the cough?
Anna Leigh, who is a newbie and an alum of The Amazing Race, told BLKCinema.com in our interview with the full cast that she was fighting off an illness during the challenge and couldn’t suppress her coughing, but the bigger issue was a comment she’d made earlier in the game without realizing her mic was live.
“So I think I set myself up on accident, not really knowing because I was very clearly sick and I could not keep my throat clearing and coughing to myself,” she said. “And I made a comment prior, which totally forgetting that you’re mic’d up 24/7. And I made a comment that was like, ‘Well, what if we throat cleared to let each other know we were next to each other?’ And it didn’t hit me till after the fact that when I was up there, I tried to suppress it as much as I could, but I did throat clear. And so it was after the fact that I was like, ‘Oh, it was probably me.’ But completely unintentional. I just set myself up and didn’t realize it.”
She added that her illness made the moment nearly impossible to avoid. “I was so clearly sick. There was no way that I could have suppressed it, but it’s because I think I said that prior that it put the bug in their ear.”
