Sterling Point star Bo Bragason opened about what went into filming Oona and Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle)’s gutting Season 1 breakup, revealing the scene was shot multiple different ways before the final edit was locked on the Prime Video series.
How did Bo Bragason prepare for the breakup scene?
Bragason, who will soon star as Zelda in The Legend of Zelda film at Sony, said she felt the weight of the moment well before cameras rolled, given how central the fight is to Oona and Ramona’s arc as a couple.
“Gosh, I remember when we were coming up to the lead up of filming that scene, I was so nervous for it because it’s such an important part of their storyline as a couple. We did it in many, many different ways. So it was really interesting to watch which one they chose in the edits,” she told BLKCinema.com during our interview with the cast.
How does Bo Bragason explain Oona’s defensiveness in the fight?
Bragason connected Oona’s reaction in the scene to how she personally processes conflict, describing a tendency to guard herself once she feels crossed.
“I don’t know, I feel like in any situation of conflict, I find myself sometimes trying to mask what I’m feeling. So if I’m feeling really hurt, then I’ll probably put up a layer, a barrier of defense. Because if someone’s hurt you, if someone’s crossed a line, you’re not going to let them in the way that Oona would have done with Ramona had she not passed that boundary of hers,” she said.
Reflecting on reading the scene for the first time, Bragason called it heartbreaking but true to how young relationships often unravel. “I mean, it’s shocking and it’s so sad,” she explained. “I remember reading it for the first time, that scene, and just being like, it’s such a shame, but it’s natural for young relationships to go haywire and also it’s communication styles and you learn them as you grow. So yeah, I mean, it’s a really sad scene, but it was really fun to act.”
