Black Bear has set a theatrical release date for Wicker, which premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival. The film opens in limited release before expanding nationwide the following week. Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård, Peter Dinklage and Elizabeth Debicki star.
What is ‘Wicker’ about?
According to the official description, the film is “an audacious comedic fable about sex, marriage, and the absurdities of social convention,” telling “the wholly original love story of an ostracized fisherwoman (Colman) who commissions a husband to be made by the local basketmaker (Dinklage). When her wicker husband (Skarsgård) proves more spectacular than she ever imagined, his soulful spirit and unique prowess awaken something inside her, setting off a wave of jealousy, fascination, and upheaval that threatens the very fabric of village life.”
The film is directed by Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer, adapted from Ursula Wills’ short story “The Wicker Husband.” Cinematography is by Lol Crawley, with production design by Renátó Cseh and a score by Anna Meredith. Skarsgård’s title character was realized through a fully practical suit created by Wētā Workshop.
When does ‘Wicker’ open in theaters?
Wicker opens in limited release Oct. 23, expanding nationwide Oct. 30.
