What We Know So Far About ‘Every Year After’ Season 2

Prime Video has renewed Every Year After for a second season, with the show set to adapt Carley Fortune’s One Golden Summer, the sequel to the novel that inspired Season 1. Amy B. Harris returns as showrunner, with Fortune continuing as executive producer.

Showrunner Harris confirmed the news on stage at Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest, telling the crowd, “I might have just a little bit more tea for everybody. Do you want the tea? We’re going back to Barry’s Bay for season two!” per E! News.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement, “The response to Every Year After has been truly extraordinary, underscoring the universal appeal of Carley Fortune’s storytelling and the deep connection audiences have formed with the world of Barry’s Bay. We’re excited to return to Barry’s Bay and bring audiences another deeply emotional and unforgettable chapter.”

What do we know about Season 2 of ‘Every Year After’?

Season 2 will shift its focus from Percy and Sam’s romance to Charlie Florek (Michael Bradway) and his love interest Alice Everly, mirroring the source material. The Season 1 finale left a major cliffhanger, with Charlie suffering a heart attack in his office while reminiscing about a childhood summer at Barry’s Bay.

Bradway discussed his character’s path forward in an interview with Deadline at Obsessed Fest, saying, “First off, he needs to make up with his brother. Two because there’s a certain someone who we all know is out there who Charlie needs to meet,” per E! News. He added, “I’m excited for him, I’m excited for his journey.”

Fortune previously offered insight into the still-uncast role of Alice, telling Swoon, “Alice is someone who is really at a crossroads in her life,” according to E! News.

Star Matt Cornett also weighed in on where Percy and Sam stand heading into the new season, saying, “I do think that obviously things can be fixed, but I think that there is a lot of talking that needs to happen. I think that they need to be able to become friends again first, before they can even consider moving forward as a couple. So I’m excited to see that kind of relationship regrow and almost have to start from the ground up.”

What happened in Season 1 of ‘Every Year After’?

Season 1 adapted Fortune’s debut novel Every Summer After. The season followed Percy Fraser (Sadie Soverall), a 28-year-old obituary writer who returns to her childhood lake town of Barry’s Bay for a funeral, reuniting with childhood best friend and ex-boyfriend Sam Florek (Cornett).

The cast includes Soverall, Cornett, Bradway, Aurora Perrineau, Abigail Cowen and Joseph Chiu, with Elisha Cuthbert in a recurring role. Harris serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Fortune, Lindsey Liberatore, Amy Rardin, John Stephens and Grace Gilroy.
