A24 has released the trailer for Onslaught, a new action-horror film directed by Adam Wingard. The film marks a return to independent genre filmmaking for Wingard and his longtime collaborator Simon Barrett, who previously worked together on You’re Next and The Guest.
What is ‘Onslaught’ about?
According to the official description, the film follows a former Army sniper who “must unleash hell to protect her young daughter” when “a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers break loose in the desert.” As noted by Deadline, the trailer establishes Arjona’s character settling into a desert trailer park community before Black Hawk helicopters begin circling a nearby military facility.
Stevens, who previously starred in Wingard’s The Guest, spoke about the film in a recent interview with IndieWire: “Ultimately, it’s Adam Wingard back on form, returning to a batshit action-thriller in the desert, which is where I first met him and fell in love with him. This time, Adria Arjona, who is incredible, is our lead and has done an amazing job. People are going to really enjoy what she’s brought to that movie.”
Who stars in ‘Onslaught’?
Arjona leads the cast alongside Stevens, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Alex Pereira, Drew Starkey and Rebecca Hall. Barrett wrote the screenplay from a story by Wingard and Barrett. Producers include Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett of Ryder Picture Company and Alexander Black for Lyrical Media, alongside Wingard. An A24 film co-financed with Lyrical Media.
When does ‘Onslaught’ open in theaters?
Onslaught opens in theaters Sept. 4.
