‘Power: Origins’ Casts Camila Perez As Young Angela, Reprising Her Role From OG Series

Power: Origins, the upcoming Starz prequel spinoff, will bring back Camila Perez to reprise the role of Young Angela “Angie” Valdes, whom she previously played in one episode of the original Power series. 

Deadline broke the news. Lela Loren played adult Angela, a federal prosecutor and James “Ghost” St. Patrick’s childhood sweetheart, on the original series.

Perez joins a cast that includes Spence Moore II as young Ghost and Charlie Mann as young Tommy Egan, taking over the roles originated by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora. Other stars include MeKai Curtis as Kanan Stark (reprising his role from Power Book III: Raising Kanan), Zuri Reed as Young Tasha (played by Naturi Naughton in the original series), Ashja Cooper (reprising her role from Power Book III: Raising Kanan) and more.

What is ‘Power: Origins’ about?

Per the official description, Power: Origins explores “the action-packed origin story of fan-favorite characters Ghost, Tommy and Kanan as ambitious young entrepreneurs on the rise, determined to make their mark on the streets of New York City.”

The series received an 18-episode order, and production on the first season, filmed across New York and New Jersey locations, is now complete.

Where does ‘Power: Origins’ fit in the franchise?

Power: Origins is the fourth spinoff in the Power universe, following Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Power Book IV: Force. A fifth spinoff, Power: Legacy, set in the present timeline following the events of Power Book IV: Force, was also recently greenlit at Starz.

Who is behind ‘Power: Origins’?

The series is created by Courtney A. Kemp and Sascha Penn, with Penn serving as showrunner and executive producer from a pilot the two co-wrote. Kemp also executive produces through her production company, End of Episode, alongside Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through G-Unit Film and Television and Mark Canton through Canton Entertainment. Chris Selak and Kevin Fox also executive produce, along with Pete Chatmon, who also directs. Lionsgate Television produces for Starz.
