Universal Pictures has released the trailer for Other Mommy, the new horror film from director Rob Savage and producer James Wan, and if the reaction from The Odyssey audiences is any indication, it’s already one of the most anticipated horror films of the fall. The trailer debuted exclusively in theaters ahead of The Odyssey screenings before going online on Tuesday.
The film had originally been scheduled to reach theaters on May 8, before Universal pushed the release back to October, giving the supernatural horror film a prime spot during the Halloween season.
What is ‘Other Mommy’ about?
According to the official description, the film follows young Bela, “who forms a relationship with a sinister entity in her home who looks uncannily like her own mother.” Eight-year-old Arabella Olivia Clark leads Other Mommy, with Chastain starring in dual roles as Bela’s mother and as “Other Mommy,” the manifestation of the entity.
The film is based on Josh Malerman’s New York Times bestselling novel Incidents Around the House, which is his Bird Box.
Bird Box, of course was adapted into a Netflix film in 2018 starring Sandra Bullock and Trevante Rhodes.
Who stars in ‘Other Mommy’?
Chastain leads alongside Jay Duplass as Daddo, Clark as Bela, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen.
Savage directs from a screenplay by Nathan Elston, based on Malerman’s novel. James Wan produces for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Savage, Malerman and Ryan Lewis executive producing.
When does ‘Other Mommy’ open in theaters?
Other Mommy opens in theaters Oct. 9.
