Black Bear has released the official trailer for Wicker, the Sundance film starring Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård, Elizabeth Debicki and Peter Dinklage. As previously reported, the film opens in select theaters in October before expanding nationwide.
The trailer offers the first proper look at Alexander Skarsgård’s title character, a wicker husband brought to life through a fully practical suit created by Joe Dunckley and Wētā Workshop, the design shop behind Avatar and The Lord of the Rings.
What is ‘Wicker’ about?
According to the official description, the film is “an audacious comedic fable about sex, marriage, and the absurdities of social convention,” following “an ostracized fisherwoman (Colman) who commissions a husband to be made by the local basketmaker (Dinklage). When her wicker husband (Skarsgård) proves more spectacular than she ever imagined, his soulful spirit and unique prowess awaken something inside her, setting off a wave of jealousy, fascination, and upheaval that threatens the very fabric of village life.”
The film is adapted by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson from Ursula Wills’ acclaimed short story “The Wicker Husband.”
When does ‘Wicker’ open in theaters?
Wicker opens in select theaters Oct. 23, expanding nationwide Oct. 30.
