‘Big Brother’ Season 28 Delivers Most-Watched Premiere Since 2021

Big Brother is off to its strongest start in five years. The Season 28 premiere drew 3.88 million viewers Thursday night, up 22% from last year’s premiere and the most-watched season opener for the CBS show since July 2021.

It also marks the series’ most-watched Thursday night premiere since August 2020. On social media, the episode generated 8.1 million views, up more than 32,000% year over year, and 866,000 interactions, up 48%, making it the most-engaged premiere since 2020.

What happened in the ‘Big Brother’ Season 28 premiere?

The episode launched the Time Trip theme with 14 new houseguests, but it was the surprise appearances that dominated the conversation. Big Brother winner and franchise icon Rachel Reilly entered the house alongside Big Brother 26’s Angela Murray and Survivor‘s Rick Devens, before Reilly’s shocking in-game exit. The following day’s Big Brother: Unlocked episode revealed the next major twist: Survivor 45 winner Dee Valladares entering the house.

The season premiere is up 21% in total viewers compared to Big Brother‘s Thursday night average last season, per Nielsen Panel and Big Data.
