Hulu has released the trailer for Phony, the coming-of-age mystery series starring Connie Britton and Sam Nivola.
Per the official synopsis, “Phony is a coming-of-age mystery about a teenager who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident to discover his mom – his only parent and his best friend – appears to have been replaced by an impostor.”
Britton plays Sonny’s single mother, Ellen, who also happens to be the principal of his high school, adding another layer of complication to Sonny’s increasingly bizarre situation, according to TV Insider. Hulu first ordered the series to series in August 2025 following a pilot, which filmed in Vancouver, according to Deadline.
Britton stars as Ellen, alongside Nivola as Sonny. The cast also includes Meera Syal as Sharla, a private investigator Sonny hires to help find his mother, Grace Brennan as Mallory, Mahaela Park as Chloe, Maliq Johnson as Vogel and Colter Lee as Weldon.
Nick Paley wrote and directed the first episode and executive produces the half-hour series with co-showrunner Anthony King, alongside Britton, Charlie Alderman, and Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg of Goddard Textiles. Andrea Massaro serves as co-executive producer. The series is produced by 20th Television.
Phony premieres Oct. 20 on Hulu. Watch the full trailer below:
