Peacock has ordered three additional seasons of The Traitors (Seasons 6, 7 and 8), in addition to the upcoming Season 5, which is coming in 2027, with Alan Cumming returning as host following his third consecutive Emmy win for Outstanding Host.
The series made Emmy history with a record-breaking seven wins this year, the most ever for a competition series in a single year, including Outstanding Reality Competition Program, Outstanding Host for a Reality Or Reality Competition Program, Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program, Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Or Reality Series, Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program, Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Programming, and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Reality Competition Program.
The most recent season also delivered Peacock’s biggest ratings to date for the series, with viewership up 72% over the prior season. Since its Jan. 8 premiere, the season has garnered 8.1 billion minutes viewed, ranking as the No. 2 streaming original reality series of 2026 to date by minutes viewed, behind only Peacock’s Love Island USA.
What is ‘The Traitors’ about?
Per the official description, The Traitors is “a nail-biting psychological adventure in which treachery and deceit are the name of the game. A distinguished roster of famous faces, notable figures, top competitors, and reality icons play the ultimate murder mystery game.” Hosted by Cumming at a castle in the Scottish Highlands, per the official description, “players work together on a series of exhilarating missions to build a substantial prize fund. Hidden amongst the Faithfuls are the Traitors, whose goal is to eliminate the Faithful and claim the prize for themselves. Under the cover of darkness, the Traitors murder the Faithful one by one in a treacherous spree, while the Faithful try to uncover the Traitors and banish them from the game. If the Faithful banish all the Traitors, they will share the prize fund, but if a Traitor (or Traitors) makes it to the end, they will steal all the money.”
Stephen Lambert, Mike Cotton, Sam Rees-Jones, Rosie Franks, Tim Harcourt, Jack Burgess, Darrell Olsen and Cumming executive produce. The series is produced by Studio Lambert, with the format devised by IDTV and RTL.
When does the next season of ‘The Traitors’ premiere?
The next season of The Traitors returns to Peacock in 2027. Ahead of that, NBC will debut the spinoff The Traitors: New Blood on Sept. 17, at 8 p.m., with episodes streaming next day on Peacock.
