Zendaya has signed on to star in a new sci-fi film from Alex Garland at A24, Variety was one of the first to break the news. Garland will write and direct the untitled project, which is set to shoot in 2027.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, per Variety, and the film has no title yet. The project is Zendaya’s latest with A24, following the HBO series Euphoria, which ended after three seasons earlier this year, and comedy The Drama with Robert Pattinson. She also is set for Barry Jenkins’ Ronnie Spector biopic which is also set at A24.
Garland is a frequent collaborator of A24, with his films there including Ex Machina, Civil War, Men and Warfare. The studio is also behind his adaptation of Elden Ring, starring Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman and Tom Burke, which is set for release in 2028.
He also wrote 28 Days Later and reunited with Danny Boyle for last year’s 28 Years Later and its follow-up, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Boyle recently told the London Film Festival that Garland had written a “fantastic script” for a third film but is busy with Elden Ring. “So it’s on the back burner at the moment,” Boyle said. Variety notes that Garland’s new film could push the third 28 Years Later back further.
