Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox are set to star in Women Like Us, Women Like Us, a new comedy film set at Netflix. The project is produced by MACRO Film Studios and and the Obamas’ Higher Ground.
According to the official description, the film follows “a recently widowed woman” who “is dragged to the Hamptons by her lifelong best friends and sister on what should have been her 30th anniversary. The weekend becomes a reckoning, with grief, with marriage, with the sisterhood that’s carried them throughout the years, and with the realization that dreams don’t have an expiration date.”
Tasha Smith directs from an original script by Ali Kinney, with writing from Girls Trip and Harlem writer Tracy Oliver. Smith, also directed Netflix’s upcoming ‘Tis So Sweet starring Taraji P. Henson and Joey Bada$$.
James Lopez and Poppy Hanks produce for MACRO Film Studios, with Anikah McLaren and Mark R. Wright producing for Higher Ground. Michelle Obama executive produces for Higher Ground and Charles D. King executive produces for MACRO Film Studios.
Production begins this fall in New York City.
