Prime Video renewed Elle for a second season in January 2026, months before the first season even premiered, announced simultaneously with the show’s July 1 premiere date, per Deadline. Here’s everything we know so far.
Why did Prime Video renew ‘Elle’ so early?
Hello Sunshine president of film and television Lauren Neustadter told Deadline at the time of the renewal, “There’s a beautiful mother-daughter story for all of the women that are closer to my age who bought tickets, and saw Legally Blonde almost 25 years ago, we’re coming up on the 25th anniversary. They now have daughters, and I have a daughter, and I will be so excited to watch the show with my daughter. My greatest hope and dream and wish is that parents will watch it with their kids. I think the world needs Elle Woods.”
What do we know about the story of Season 2?
Showrunner Laura Kittrell told Deadline, “We pick up in Season 2 right after Season 1 ends. So the cliffhangers that we’ve left you with in Season 1, you will not have to wait long to see how those are going to be resolved.” That includes Elle’s love triangle after she shared a kiss with Dustin in front of Miles in the Season 1 finale, as well as the developing romance between Liz and Kimberly and Elle’s parents’ struggles.
Neustadter previously told Deadline that Season 1 takes place during Elle’s first semester of junior year in high school, with Season 2 picking up the second semester.
Who is joining ‘Elle’ Season 2?
Never Have I Ever star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is joining as Sam, described by Deadline as “Elle’s foil — possessing all our hero’s ambition and none of her optimism. She’s the founder, editor-in-chief, and lord baron of the school newspaper, the commissioner of the grammar police, and the enemy of joy. If Cosmo is Elle’s bible, The AP Stylebook is Sam’s holy grail.”
Notably, Season 2 will not feature James Van Der Beek, who played Dean Wilson in Season 1. Van Der Beek passed away in February 2026, and Elle marks his final acting credit.
When does ‘Elle’ Season 2 premiere?
A premiere date for Season 2 has not yet been announced. Production has already wrapped, per Deadline, making a late 2026 or early 2027 release possible.
