The Hunting Party has no path forward. The options on the cast expired this week and were not extended by series producer Universal Television, Deadline reports. With the actors released, efforts to extend the show’s life are officially over.
Universal Television had launched a campaign to find the series a new home after NBC canceled it in June following two seasons. The prospect initially seemed promising — the show had performed well on two streamers simultaneously, with Peacock carrying the full series including next-day episodes, while Netflix had licensed previous seasons in the U.S. Season 1’s strong launch on Netflix in February further boosted viewership on Peacock, where the show had already been a solid performer. In the end, per Deadline, neither Peacock nor Netflix — or anyone else — stepped in to save it.
According to the official description, the series “follows a small team of investigators who are assembled to track down and capture the most dangerous killers our country has ever seen, all of whom have just escaped from a top-secret prison that’s not supposed to exist.” The show starred Melissa Roxburgh alongside Nick Wechsler, Patrick Sabongui, Josh McKenzie and Sara Garcia. Created by JJ Bailey, who also executive produced alongside Jake Coburn, Thor Freudenthal and Keto Shimizu.
