Netflix has released the first look images for Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third installment in the franchise. The film is set at a destination wedding in Lake Como, Italy, and adds Taraji P. Henson to a returning cast that includes Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith and Sharon Leal, among others.
Perry told People that reuniting with the cast “felt like putting on a warm robe,” adding, “I am most excited for audiences to see how these characters have matured and how their love for each other took them through some really hard times. It’s a wonderful reminder of how people grow, change, mature and settle into what marriage is and not what we think it is when we’re young.”
What is ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’ about?
According to the official description, “the couples reunite in celebration as Marcus and Angela’s daughter prepares to tie the knot. After being apart for quite some time, they learn quickly that as much as things change, they stay the same. Realizing their children have grown up to be so much like them, they must reflect on the examples they’ve set and ask themselves that age-old question, why did they get married… again?”
Perry told People of the next generation of characters, “Introducing this new generation of characters gave us an opportunity to give the kids an opportunity to shine and go through things and eventually realize they’re not perfect and neither were their parents.”
What do we know about Taraji P. Henson’s new character?
Henson plays Roselyn, described to People as “the fierce, powerful businesswoman who travels with the group to Lake Como to see her son get married… and let’s just say, may be traveling with some extra baggage of her own!” Henson said of the project to People, “I don’t want to give too much away, but who doesn’t love a destination wedding that brings together old and new friends?” On working with the cast, she added, “It’s also not every day that you get to work with one of your best friends, so sharing scenes with my girl Tasha Smith was amazing.”
Perry said of Henson, “We are both Virgos and can look across the room and not say a word and know what the other is thinking. I just adore her.”
