Neon Sets Release Date For ‘Clarissa’ Starring Sophie Okonedo, Ayo Edebiri And More

Neon has announced a theatrical release date for Clarissa, the Cannes Film Festival acclaimed reimagining of Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway set in Lagos, Nigeria. Directed by twin brothers Arie and Chuko Esiri, the film stars Sophie Okonedo, David Oyelowo, India Amarteifio and Ayo Edebiri and marks only the second Nigerian film ever selected at Cannes.

What is ‘Clarissa’ about?

According to the official description, the film “follows society woman Clarissa (Okonedo) as she prepares to host a party at her home in Lagos, Nigeria, where she will unexpectedly encounter once-intimate friends from her youth. As the group reflects on their shared past over the course of a single night, memories of their intricate relationships, passionate love, hidden desires, and lost aspirations give rise to bittersweet reckoning.”

The ensemble also includes Toheeb Jimoh, Fortune Nwafor, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Jude Akuwudike, Danny Sapani and Joke Silva, among others.

The film was directed by Arie and Chuko Esiri and written by Chuko. Theresa Park, Nicholas Weinstock and the Esiri brothers produced, with cinematography by Jonathan Bloom, editing by Blair McClendon, music by Kelsey Lu and costume design by Eniola Dawodu. The film was shot entirely in Nigeria.

When does ‘Clarissa’ open in theaters?

Clarissa opens in select theaters Dec. 11.
