FX The Shards Trailer

‘The Shards’ Trailer Released: First Footage Of Kaia Gerber, Homer Gere And More In Ryan Murphy FX Series

FX has released the official trailer for The Shards, the new drama series from Ryan Murphy, based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel. The series premieres this summer with two episodes at premiere on FX and Hulu.

What is ‘The Shards’ about?

According to the official description, the series is set “against the vivid backdrop of 1980s Los Angeles” and follows “a group of privileged high school seniors at an elite prep school as they navigate identity, sex, jealousy, obsession and the dangers lurking beneath the surface of American adolescence.”

At the center is Bret (Igby Rigney), “an aspiring writer and keenly observant teenager whose reality begins to unravel with the arrival of a mysterious and magnetic new student, Robert Mallory (Homer Gere). Transferring in just before his senior year, Mallory’s appearance coincides with the growing terror of The Trawler, a serial killer targeting teenagers across the city.”

Alongside Rigney, the series follows his elite social circle: Susan Reynolds (Kaia Gerber), Debbie Schaffer (Hayes Warner) and Thom Wright (Graham Campbell), “a glamorous and deeply entangled group drawn into a life of wealth, beauty, parties and excess.” According to the official description, “the promise of their youth is contrasted with the dark and cynical world of the adults surrounding them,” including Terry Schaffer (Wes Bentley), Liz Schaffer (Evan Rachel Wood) and Steven Reinhardt (Jordan Roth).

This marks the first major role for Gere, who is the son of Richard Gere, after appearing in a minor role in Euphoria.

Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Ellis, Eric Kovtun and Scott Robertson are among the executive producers. The series is produced by 20th Television.

When does ‘The Shards’ premiere?

The Shards premieres Aug. 5 with two episodes at 9 p.m. ET on FX and Hulu.
