Sony Pictures Classics has released the trailer for The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, John Turturro’s Sundance breakout that opens in New York and Los Angeles before expanding.
What is ‘The Only Living Pickpocket in New York’ about?
Per the official description: “Harry Lehman is an aging pickpocket who plies his trade with ever-diminishing returns in a drastically changed New York. Wallets stuffed with cash have been replaced by easily canceled credit cards, and Harry struggles to make ends meet as he cares for his disabled wife, Rosie. When he unwittingly purloins and fences a valuable USB stick, Harry finds himself in a race against time to return the loot or face the rage of a vengeful crime family.”
The film is directed and written by Noah Segan, marking his feature directorial debut. Turturro leads a cast that includes Giancarlo Esposito, Will Price, Tatiana Maslany, Steve Buscemi and Jamie Lee Curtis. Turturro spent months learning pickpocketing techniques to prepare for the role, according to an interview with Deadline.
When does ‘The Only Living Pickpocket in New York’ premiere?
The film opens in New York and Los Angeles on Oct. 23, expanding nationwide on Oct. 30. It previously premiered at Sundance in January as part of the festival’s Premieres lineup, followed by a Berlinale Special screening in February.
Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman executive produce through T-Street alongside Johnny Holland, with Katie McNeill, Leopold Hughes and Ben LeClair producing for MRC.
