FX has released the official trailer for The Drop: A Snowfall Saga, the Snowfall spinoff starring Gail Bean and Isaiah John. FX first revealed the show’s title back in June, following its series order.
Bean and John lead the cast alongside series regulars Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith and Simmie “Buddy” Sims III.
What is ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’ about?
Per the official description, “‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga‘ follows Snowfall characters Wanda Bell (Bean) and Leon Simmons (John) as they fight to reinvent themselves in ’90s Los Angeles, where the fallout from the crack epidemic is fueling a new game: the rise of West Coast rap.”
Per the official description, “Wanda starts the series driven by the clear belief that West Coast rap has the power to reshape American culture. She will work to put together a ragtag group of geniuses and lead them to the realization of all their dreams. To do it, she must navigate the dangerous overlap of music and street politics, pulling in those closest to her including her cousins Lamar Kinsey (Blackk) and James Kinsey (Smith), and pursuing volatile local rapper Artillery (Sims), who is already in a tangle with law enforcement. Her internship with former D-boy-turned-label-owner Darryl ‘DG’ Grant (Brandon Mychal Smith) creates opportunities but also deepens tensions between Wanda and Leon, who has vowed to leave the streets for good and chase down his own atonement through his free legal clinic.”
Malcolm Spellman, Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, Trevor Engelson and Paul Garnes executive produce. The series is produced by FX Productions.
Snowfall ran for six seasons from 2017 to 2023. Created by the late John Singleton, the original series centered on the 1980s crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles, primarily following Damson Idris’ Franklin Saint.
When does ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’ premiere?
The Drop: A Snowfall Saga premieres Sept. 8 at 9 p.m. ET on FX and Hulu.
