Searchlight Pictures has released a new trailer for Behemoth!, Tony Gilroy’s first theatrical feature in 14 years, starring Pedro Pascal as a cellist. The new footage follows the first teaser released in July. The film premiered at the New York Film Festival and opens in theaters before the year ends.
The logline is: “A gifted cellist returns home to Los Angeles after 20 years on the road. Music, which has been the constant, all-consuming river of his life, swells into an adventure that will change him forever.”
Pascal plays the cellist, Alex Serian. As we previously reported, Gilroy has called Behemoth! his most personal film and a love letter to movie music and the people who make it.
Pascal stars as Alex Serian, with Olivia Wilde, Eva Victor and Will Arnett leading the cast. Alexa Swinton, Kaya Ralls, Erik Griffin, JoBeth Williams and Margarita Levieva also star, with Hank Azaria.
It is Pascal’s first lead role in a film, as we previously reported. He told Vanity Fair that learning the cello was the hardest skill he has ever had to learn, harder than the physical demands of Gladiator II.
Oscar Isaac was originally attached to star beginning in early 2025 but left the project last August because of scheduling conflicts, according to Deadline. Pascal stepped in afterward. David Harbour was initially set for the role that went to Arnett but dropped out in January because of the final season of Stranger Things.
Behemoth! had its world premiere as the centerpiece of the 64th New York Film Festival.
Gilroy writes and directs, and produces with Sanne Wohlenberg and John Gilroy. Damián García is the cinematographer. The score is by nine composers billed as The Behemoth! Collective, including Michael Giacchino, James Newton Howard and Alan Silvestri.
Behemoth! opens only in theaters Dec. 4. Watch the trailer below:
