‘Mr. Irrelevant’ Trailer: David Corenswet In NFL Underdog Biopic

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Sports have released the trailer for Mr. Irrelevant, a biopic starring David Corenswet as former New York Giants player John Tuggle, directed by Jonathan Levine.

According to the official description, “Mr. Irrelevant is the inspiring true story of John Tuggle (Corenswet), the last player selected in the last round of the 1983 NFL draft by the New York Giants. A true underdog, Tuggle defied expectations on the field and off for his then first-year head coach, Bill Parcells (Michael Shannon), his newfound love (Isabel May), and his team, proving that remarkable hope and perseverance can transcend even the greatest challenges.”

The film recounts Tuggle’s final months before his death from cancer at age 25 in 1986, three years after he was drafted, according to Deadline. Isabel May plays a fictional love interest named Katie.

Who stars in ‘Mr. Irrelevant’?

Corenswet leads as Tuggle, alongside May, David Krumholtz, Tuwaine Barrett, Thaddeus LaGrone, Alexander England, Spencer House, Tandi Wright and Shannon as Parcells.

Nick Santora wrote the screenplay. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Levine, Gillian Bohrer and Santora produce, with Jesse Sisgold, Jason T. Reed, Sandino Moya-Smith, Stan Wlodkowski, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, Andrew Lary, Ross Ketover, Ken Rodgers and Jessica Boddy executive producing. The film is a Skydance Sports production in association with Domain Entertainment, from Megamix and Blackjack Films.

When does ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ premiere?

Mr. Irrelevant opens in theaters on Dec. 25.
