‘Martin’ Spinoff ‘The Varnell Hill Show’ Reveals Premiere Date And First Images

Paramount+ has revealed the first images and announced the premiere date for Martin spinoff The Varnell Hill Show, starring and executive produced by Tommy Davidson as the talk show host first introduced in the ’90s iconic sitcom.

Martin Lawrence executive produces and makes special appearances throughout the season. Set for Paramount+, the series was initially going to be a BET+ original before the latter streamer folded into the former under Paramount Skydance.

According to the official description, the workplace comedy series is “set behind the scenes of a long-running late-night talk show” where Varnell (Davidson) “fights to stay relevant in a rapidly changing entertainment landscape. Between network executives eager to modernize the show, a chaotic writers’ room, celebrity guests, family drama, and his own outsized ego, Varnell quickly discovers that keeping a television empire together may be harder than building one in the first place.”

Davidson leads an ensemble cast that includes Kym Whitley, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Nick Cafero, Emmanuel Hudson and Chris Williams, with guest stars including Ms. Pat, Deon Cole, Damon Wayans, Mike Epps and Omarion.

The series is executive produced by Lawrence, Davidson, Jesse Collins and Dionne Harmon for Jesse Collins Entertainment, alongside Stacy Lyles, Rae Proctor and Robert Lawrence for Runteldat Entertainment. Martin show runner Bentley Kyle Evans serves as showrunner, writer and director here. The series is produced by BET Studios for Paramount+.

When does ‘The Varnell Hill Show’ premiere?

The Varnell Hill Show premieres Sept. 1 on Paramount+ with two episodes, followed by weekly episodes through Oct. 13.
