Neon has released the trailer for The Wrong Girls, a new stoner comedy marking the feature directorial debut of Dylan Meyer, who also wrote the script. The film stars Meyer’s wife Kristen Stewart alongside Alia Shawkat and opens in theaters this summer.
What is ‘The Wrong Girls’ about?
According to IndieWire, the film stars Stewart and Shawkat as “two weed-loving friends who find themselves wrapped up in a case of mistaken identity and take far too long to realize that they’re in serious danger.” The two accidentally ingest an experimental psychedelic, which leaves them with lingering telepathic abilities, including the ability to read their cats’ minds, while being pursued by white-suited Danish villains who want their drugs back.
Meyer told IndieWire of the film’s origins, “Dylan wrote that script, ‘The Wrong Girls,’ years ago and we are producing it now. I’m so excited we get to shoot in L.A. and that in and of itself seems like a fantasy. Alia Shawkat is my other ‘Wrong Girl’ and we’re putting it together, like in quite a literal way, right now.” Stewart described the film simply: “It’s a stoner girl comedy, and it’s really stupid. I think you’ll like it.”
Who stars in ‘The Wrong Girls’?
Stewart plays Frankie and Shawkat plays Molly, with LaKeith Stanfield, Tony Hale, Zack Fox, Kate McKinnon, Geena Davis and Cate Blanchett also starring. Seth Rogen and Kumail Nanjiani voice the characters’ cats. Rogen and Evan Goldberg produce via Point Grey Pictures alongside Stewart, Meyer and Maggie McLean.
