Shane Paul McGhie and Dasan Frazier are set to star in the untitled male friendship comedy pilot from Issa Rae at HBO. Deadline first reported the news. Rae wrote the half-hour pilot and executive produces.
Per Deadline, the pilot “centers on Menzel (McGhie), a 28-year-old barber, aspiring sports manager and professional best friend to JB (Frazier), a 27-year-old up-and-coming boxer, as they navigate ambition, insecurity, loneliness and the double-edged sword of success within the high-stakes world of professional boxing in Las Vegas.”
McGhie has guest starred on Poker Face, Abbott Elementary and Grey’s Anatomy and played Jevon in Andrew Cohn’s feature The Last Shift. Frazier most recently appeared in Netflix’s A Different World and will also recur in Prime Video’s Delphi.
Prentice Penny, who also worked with Rae on Insecure, will showrun the project, direct the pilot and executive produce. The executive producers also include Jax Clark for Hoorae, A Penny For Your Thoughts, and Jonathan Berry and Dave Becky of 3 Arts Entertainment.
