Eddie Murphy’s First Scripted TV Series, ‘The Chairman,’ In Development At Peacock From ‘Mad Men’ Creator

,

Peacock is developing The Chairman, a new drama series which would mark Eddie Murphy’s first scripted television role, from writer Matthew Weiner and 101 Studios.

Weiner, the creator and showrunner of Mad Men and a writer and executive producer on The Sopranos, developed the series. Weiner, Murphy and 101 Studios produce, with the series also being produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The project marks the first collaboration between NBCUniversal, 101 Studios CEO David Glasser and their longtime collaborator Chris McCarthy as part of McCarthy’s overall deal with NBCUniversal. Glasser and 101 Studios launched a first-look film and television deal at NBCUniversal in January.

The series would Murphy’s first series regular role in television since leaving Saturday Night Live in 1984. He previously served as an executive producer on the animated Fox series, The PJs.
