BritBox and the BBC have announced additional cast members for Hercule, the series following Agatha Christie’s iconic Belgian detective, with 10 new cast members joining previously announced lead Edward Bluemel. The series begins filming soon, primarily in Liverpool.
Joining Bluemel are Henry Ashton, James D’Arcy, Calvin Demba, Phil Dunning, Jack Gleeson, Tamsin Greig, James Nesbitt, Guy Remmers, Rebecca Rittenhouse and Mawaan Rizwan.
What is ‘Hercule’ about?
According to the official description, the series “will chronicle the story of the world’s greatest detective — and how he became it.” Described as “an intimate study of Hercule Poirot, the man and an epic portrait of Britain between the wars,” the series centers around three of Christie’s early stories “while also introducing Hercule Poirot to future friends and allies and one particular nemesis.”
The series is written by Benji Walters, who also executive produces alongside director Jonny Campbell, who helms the first two episodes. Chanya Button and Alrick Riley direct Blocks 2 and 3 respectively. James Prichard executive produces for Agatha Christie Limited, with Rebecca Durbin and Damien Timmer executive producing for Mammoth Screen. A Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited production for BritBox in North America and BBC One in the UK.
