Prime Video has announced the first cast members for Boys of Tommen, its upcoming series adaptation of Irish author Chloe Walsh’s bestselling book series. Nancy Surridge, Conor Sánchez, James O’Donoghue and Sophie McGibbon have been cast in the lead roles, with Irish filmmaker Brendan Canty set to direct.
Who is in the cast of ‘Boys of Tommen’?
Surridge will play Shannon Lynch, “the shy and mysterious new girl at Tommen College.” Sánchez takes on Johnny Kavanagh, “the golden boy of Tommen.” O’Donoghue plays Joey Lynch, “the troubled but loyal” brother, and McGibbon plays Aoife Molloy, “the fiercely confident” friend. The production received over 3,000 casting submissions from across the UK and Ireland.
What is the series about?
Per the official description, the series “follows the forbidden love story of Johnny Kavanagh, the star rugby player on the verge of a pro career, and Shannon Lynch, the talented but painfully shy new girl at the prestigious private school of Tommen College in Ballylaggin, Ireland. Both teenagers are hiding secrets; Johnny, a potentially career-ending injury, and Shannon, a troubled and violent homelife. Through their secret and highly charged connection, the two teens from opposite worlds battle against the odds and find a way to save each other.”
Series one, adapted by Poppy Cogan, is based on the first two books in Walsh’s series, Binding 13 and Keeping 13. The series is produced by wiip in association with Amazon MGM Studios. Cogan executive produces alongside Walsh, wiip’s Paul Lee, Hope Hartman and Sean Flanagan, Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, James Seidman and Annika Patten, and Drama Republic’s Greg Brenman and Deena Butt. Ingrid Goodwin serves as series producer. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
