Dutton Ranch fans who wanted more of Ed Harris in Season 1 are in luck. Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have both confirmed that Harris will have a significantly expanded role in Season 2 of the Paramount+ series, with Reilly telling TV Insider the show is shifting to better reflect its full ensemble. “I think Season 2 is going to feel very much more Ed’s show,” Reilly said. “This is not the Beth and Rip show. This is Dutton Ranch, and there’s four lead characters.”
Hauser echoed the sentiment, telling TV Insider, “He’s such an amazing American actor that I think was used very sparingly this year. We’re going to make sure that he is a big part of helping us moving forward in whatever capacity.”
What do we know about Ed Harris’ character in ‘Dutton Ranch’?
Harris plays Everett McKinney, a war veteran and veterinarian who rekindled a romance with Annette Bening’s Beulah Jackson in Season 1’s penultimate episode, only for the truth about Beulah’s corrupt business dealings to complicate things. His friendship with Beth and Rip puts him at the center of the tension heading into Season 2, per TV Insider.
Hauser told TV Insider that Everett is “going to become a very important, integral part of Season 2.”
What did the cast say about working with Ed Harris and Annette Bening?
Reilly told People the two veterans elevated the entire production. “I feel like they made us legit. We could have just been a little soapy spinoff and we’re not because of them. We’re a drama, we’re a new show, and it’s got some heavyweights in it.”
Hauser told People of Harris ahead of the Season 1 premiere, “The opportunity and honor to work with Ed was a dream come true. He’s just as good of a person as he is an actor.” Bening, who previously starred alongside Harris in 2013’s The Face of Love, told People of working with him again, “With great actors like Ed Harris, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, then, really, it’s about listening and looking at what they’re doing and picking up on that energy.”
When does ‘Dutton Ranch’ Season 2 premiere?
A premiere date for Season 2 has not yet been announced. Season 1 is currently streaming on Paramount+.
