CBS’s groundbreaking Black soap Beyond the Gates has already made a stunning awards splash for the 53rd Daytime Emmy Awards, scoring 15 nominations in its first year of eligibility — second only to The Young and the Restless, which led all nominees with 18. The nominations were announced Tuesday by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Beyond the Gates premiered in February 2025 as the first new daytime soap on a major broadcast network since Passions in 1999 and the first daytime soap to center on a primarily Black cast since Generations.
The show’s 15 nominations include Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, two lead actress nominations for Karla Mosley and Tamara Tunie, two supporting actor nominations for Timon Kyle Durrett and Mike Manning, and two emerging talent nominations for Ambyr Michelle and Arielle Prepetit. Notably, series lead Clifton Davis, who plays patriarch Vernon Dupree, was passed over in the lead actor category despite widespread expectation of a nomination, as Gold Derby reported.
General Hospital follows with 13 nominations, Days of Our Lives with eight and The Bold and the Beautiful with six. Among talk shows, The Kelly Clarkson Show led with 10 nominations — notable given the show’s cancellation — while Sherri also landed a host nomination despite its axing. Both Kelly Clarkson and Sherri Shepherd are competing for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host in what will be their final seasons.
