Lifetime has set a September premiere date for Robin Roberts Presents Angel in the Rubble: The Genelle Guzman Story, the fourth film under Roberts’ banner with the network, marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
What is ‘Angel in the Rubble’ about?
Sherri Shepherd stars as Genelle Guzman. Per the official description, Guzman was “buried beneath the collapse of the North Tower on 9/11 and trapped for 27 harrowing hours,” reflecting on her life and the faith she’d left behind as she prayed for deliverance and promised to change if given another chance.
According to the description, a man named Paul found her in the debris and stayed by her side until rescuers pulled her out as the final survivor recovered from Ground Zero; when Guzman later tried to find Paul to thank him, no one could confirm he had ever been there, leading her to believe he was an angel sent to guide her toward the life she’d promised while trapped.
Dondré Whitfield plays Genelle’s boyfriend, Roger McMillan. The film is based on Guzman-McMillan’s memoir Angel in the Rubble: The Miraculous Rescue of 9/11’s Last Survivor.

When does ‘Angel in the Rubble’ premiere?
Angel in the Rubble premieres Saturday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
The film arrives a day after The History Channel’s 102 Minutes Inside the Towers, another Roberts-produced project marking the anniversary. Per the official description, that special gathers first-person accounts from people inside the Twin Towers during the attacks, including window washers, bankers, security staff and first responders, premiering Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. It’s sponsored by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and produced by Arrow Media and Rock’n Robin Productions, with Grace Chapman directing.
