MGM+ has released the official trailer and images for American Hostage, the anthology thriller series starring and executive produced by Jon Hamm.
What is ‘American Hostage’ about?
Per the official description: “Based on the acclaimed first season of the scripted podcast of the same name, American Hostage is a psychological thriller set in the 1970’s that tells the harrowing true story of Fred Heckman, a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who is thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program.”
The series dramatizes the same 1977 Indianapolis hostage standoff previously depicted in the Gus Van Sant film Dead Man’s Wire, which played at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, according to Gold Derby.
Who stars in ‘American Hostage’?
Hamm plays Fred Heckman, alongside Giovanni Ribisi as Tony Kiritsis. The cast also includes Kristoffer Polaha as Dick Hall, William Jackson Harper as Ben Hairston, Mireille Enos as Barbara Heckman, Jonathan Tucker as FBI Special Agent Cormac McNally and Kat Cunning as Ibby Hall.
Shawn Ryan and Eileen Myers co-created the series and executive produce alongside Hamm, Sharon Hoffman, Connie Tavel, Marney Hochman, Shawn Christensen and Gabriel Mason. Adam Arkin and Nina Lopez-Corrado also executive produce and serve as series directors. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
When does ‘American Hostage’ premiere?
American Hostage will hold its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of the festival’s Primetime Program. It debuts with a two-episode premiere Sept. 20 on MGM+, followed by weekly episodes through the Nov. 1 finale.
