FX's Adults - Surprise Prequel Episode Premieres July 31

Adults Prequel Episode ‘Marathon Day’: Premiere Date, What It’s About And Everything To Know

FX’s Adults surprised a sold-out crowd at Tribeca Festival with a screening of a special standalone prequel episode ahead of the show’s second season. The episode, titled “Marathon Day,” introduces the friend group and reveals the origin story of Paul Baker (Jack Innanen).

In a statement, creators Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw said, “We’re so excited for the opportunity to show fans how this friend group came to be. We love a good origin story, and we can’t wait for you to see where the radioactive spider bit Paul Baker.”

What is ‘Adults’ about?

According to the official series description, Adults is “an ensemble comedy series about a group of twenty-somethings in New York leaning on each other to navigate love, work, friendship and family. Samir (Malik Elassal), Billie (Lucy Freyer), Paul Baker (Jack Innanen), Issa (Amita Rao) and Anton (Owen Thiele) are five friends crashing together in Samir’s childhood home.”

Per the Season 2 longline, the new season finds the housemates tackling “a new set of real-world questions. What if the 20-year-old who inherited your fake ID is cooler than you ever were, and younger than you’ll ever be again? How do you explain to your friends that you actually love your boring office job? Why does being around your family make you regress into your worst self? And how do you ask for things to change, when you also need everything to stay the same?”

“Marathon Day” is written by Kronengold and Shaw and directed by Jonathan Krisel. The episode will also be available for a limited sneak peek on Hulu’s YouTube channel and FX’s TikTok and Instagram beginning July 31.

Adults is executive produced by Kronengold, Shaw, Nick Kroll, Sarah Naftalis, Krisel, Alicia Van Couvering and Rob Rosell. Produced by FX Productions.

When do the prequel episode and ‘Adults’ Season 2 premiere?

“Marathon Day” drops July 31 on FXX and Hulu.

Adults Season 2 premieres Aug. 27 on FXX and Hulu, with all eight episodes available at launch on Hulu and two episodes airing weekly on FXX.
