Neon has released the trailer for Clarissa, the Arie and Chuko Esiri-directed drama starring Sophie Okonedo, David Oyelowo, India Amarteifio, Toheeb Jimoh and Ayo Edebiri. A reimagining of Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway set in Lagos, Nigeria, the film is a selection of the 64th New York Film Festival and previously screened at the Cannes Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. In the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar at Cannes, it marked only the second Nigerian film ever selected.

The synopsis reads, “In contemporary Nigeria, tales of two lives unfold as the memories of their past begin to infiltrate their future. In Lagos, Clarissa prepares for a party as recollections and acquaintances of her youth resurface. Meanwhile, Septimus, a young soldier, struggles with the horrors he has witnessed.”

The film was directed by twin brothers Arie and Chuko and written by Chuko. Theresa Park, Nicholas Weinstock and the Esiri brothers produced, with cinematography by Jonathan Bloom, editing by Blair McClendon, music by Kelsey Lu and costume design by Eniola Dawodu. The film was shot entirely in Nigeria.

As previously reported, Clarissa opens in select theaters Dec. 11. Watch the trailer below:
