Prime Video has given a series order to New Money, a new half-hour comedy created, written by and starring Mekki Leeper, one of the stars of NBC’s St. Denis Medical. Joe Mande is executive producing and co-showrunning alongside Leeper.
Per to the synopsis, “New Money is an ensemble workplace comedy set in the fast-paced and morally dubious world of private equity. The show follows a trustfund-baby-turned-(self-proclaimed)-mogul and his staff of misguided wannabes at New Money Worldwide, Southern California’s least successful venture capital firm. Delusions of grandeur and complete incompetence will not stop our nepo-baby hero and his team of dedicated misfits, from failing upwards as they recklessly invest money in a desperate attempt to make exponentially more money.”
Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, said, “Mekki Leeper is a rare talent and a sharp comedic voice who brings an original perspective to everything he does. Paired with the incredible creative pedigree of Joe Mande, New Money is the kind of smart, irreverent comedy that audiences love. We can’t wait for Prime Video customers around the world to discover this series.”
The series is based on Fintech, a self-financed pilot created and directed by Leeper, which was later shown to buyers with Rob Mac attached as executive producer.
Leeper created, writes and stars in the series. Mande executive produces and co-showruns alongside Leeper. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Mac for More Better, Jackie Cohn, Nick Frenkel of 3 Arts Entertainment and Olivia Doud of Mosaic.
