CBS has released the trailer for Season 2 of Boston Blue, the Blue Bloods spinoff starring Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green.
Season 2 resolves the Season 1 finale’s central cliffhanger, revealing the fate of Lena’s boyfriend, Brian, after he was intentionally run off the road, while Danny navigates a new promotion. Co-showrunner Brandon Margolis told TVLine that what happened to Brian is “part of something larger at play” that will run as an ongoing storyline through the season.
In the premiere episode, per the official description, “when a series of murders begins mirroring the infamous Boston Strangler killings, Danny and Lena race to stop a copycat killer before he strikes again. As panic grips the city, Jonah and Sean, fresh off their rookie year, as well as Henry Reagan, jump in to help Danny and Lena track down and arrest the killer. Also, Danny faces a career-defining promotion while Lena uncovers a lead that could link the attack on Detective Rodgers to a powerful figure.”
Danny’s on-and-off relationship with former partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) takes a turn this season, with co-showrunner Brandon Sonnier telling TVLine that Baez is “settling into Boston and looking toward a new life with Danny,” though the character will need time to unwind her life in New York. Margolis also told TVLine that Mae Silver’s District Attorney reelection campaign will be a major storyline, introducing a new political rival named Thad Longfellow, played by Ward Horton, as a foil for her character.
