Kamu Kirk has spent much of his Big Brother 28 run at the center of controversy. Early in the season, resurfaced social media videos showed Kamu making light of a man’s distressed arrest in a way many viewers likened to George Floyd’s death, and he also faced backlash over past liked posts deemed racist, homophobic and bigoted. Inside the house, a comment he made dismissing “the drag stuff” during a conversation about a costume competition was widely criticized as homophobic, including by Big Brother alum Frankie Grande.
Now out of the house, in an exit interview with BLKCinema.com, Kamu is addressing his comment about wanting to “end” fellow houseguest Jason De Puy’s career, as well as learning that De Puy is a famous RuPaul’s Drag Race alum.

Kamu claims the comment was strictly about the game and pointed to a YouTuber’s catchphrase as the inspiration for his wording, calling the choice of words a mistake in hindsight.
“Yeah, so when I mentioned his career, it never had to do with anything outside of the house. It was strictly game, like his career in the Big Brother house,” he said. “And you know, I’ll admit it was a poor choice of words. There’s a YouTuber, Super Hot Fire, who’s like a comedian. He does rap battles with people. And when he’s doing rap battles, you know, sometimes he says, ‘I’m gonna end this man’s whole career.’ And he’s talking about the rap battle. And so when I said that, I was referring to his Big Brother career, his time in the Big Brother house.”

He said he wasn’t caught off guard by the reveal that De Puy is famous.
“Regarding him being a famous drag queen, I’m not surprised at all,” he said. “We knew that he was a drag queen. He was talking about it in the house. But I’m not surprised that he’s a famous drag queen. I mean, Jason is a very likable person. I like Jason. I’m not surprised that he has a lot of fans. So no, I’m not surprised to hear that he’s a famous drag queen and he’s successful outside of the house.”
