Peacock has greenlit Clap If You Care: The Wendy Williams Show (working title), a three-part documentary series set to air in 2027, with longtime The Wendy Williams Show executive producer Suzanne Bass serving as an executive producer.
Per the official description, the documentary “celebrates the outrageous fun, cultural impact and meteoric rise of The Wendy Williams Show.” Per the official description, “skyrocketing from unlikely beginnings as a radio host to her impact on entertainment culture, Williams redefined the daytime talk genre with her outrageous on-screen fun on the long-running, Daytime Emmy-nominated talk show. While praising Williams’ TV reign, the documentary also sheds light on the complicated truths about the cost of fame and answers long-lingering questions surrounding the infamous exit from her own show.” More than 20 former staffers from the talk show will share behind-the-scenes memories of Williams, per the official description.
Suzanne Bass, who served as executive producer on The Wendy Williams Show for 13 seasons, executive produces the documentary. Ian Orefice, Jon Adler, Amanda Spain and Missy Walker also executive produce for EverWonder Studio, alongside Chris Witherspoon and Vanessa Golembewski.
Williams left The Wendy Williams Show in 2021 following ongoing health struggles, with Sherri Shepherd taking over her time slot in 2022 before the show ended, according to NBC News. Williams was placed under a court-ordered financial guardianship in 2022, and in 2023 was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, a diagnosis her team publicly confirmed in February 2024, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Williams has repeatedly and publicly disputed the diagnosis. Calling into iHeartRadio’s The Breakfast Club in January 2025, she said, “I am not cognitively impaired,” adding that she wants to be released from the New York City care facility where she’s been living, according to TVLine. She also told The View in 2024 to “get off my neck” regarding her guardian and the judge who ordered the arrangement, according to NBC News.
In March 2025, Williams was taken to a Manhattan hospital for evaluation following a 911 call, after which she underwent a mental competency exam. Sources told TMZ she scored a perfect 10 out of 10 on the test, answering all questions correctly.
Despite her denials, an attorney for her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, said in a November 2024 court filing that Williams had become “cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated” as a result of the diagnosis, according to NBC News.
Bass told People in February 2024 that she doubted Williams would return to daytime television given the diagnosis: “I’m more sad about her health, not that she can’t make a comeback. To have this sort of diagnosis, there’s some finality to it.”
