Michael Weatherly is returning to NCIS for a season-long arc in Season 24, CBS has announced. The actor’s return comes six months after NCIS: Tony & Ziva was canceled after one season at Paramount+.
What brings Tony DiNozzo back to ‘NCIS’?
Details on how Tony re-enters the fold are being kept under wraps. CBS has also declined to confirm whether Cote de Pablo, who played Ziva David in NCIS: Tony & Ziva, will also return to the mothership series, or whether the events of the spinoff will be retconned, per Deadline.
Weatherly first portrayed Tony DiNozzo in a backdoor pilot on JAG before becoming an original cast member when NCIS debuted in 2003. He appeared in over 300 episodes across 13 seasons before departing in the Season 13 finale. He last appeared on the flagship series in February 2024 for the funeral of beloved medical examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard, per The Hollywood Reporter, before NCIS: Tony & Ziva reunited him with de Pablo on Paramount+.
Weatherly is not the only NCIS alum returning to the franchise this season. Mark Harmon will also reprise his role as Gibbs for a season-long arc on the prequel spinoff NCIS: Origins, announced a day earlier.
