Amazon MGM Studios has released the official trailer for Verity, the psychological thriller starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name.
What is ‘Verity’ about?
Per the official description, the film “follows renowned author Verity Crawford (Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), a struggling writer who relocates to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy (Hartnett), and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession.”
Who stars in ‘Verity’?
Hathaway leads as Verity Crawford, alongside Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh and Hartnett as Jeremy Crawford. Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner round out the cast.
Michael Showalter directs from a screenplay by Nick Antosca. Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Hathaway and Hoover produce, with Kerry Orent, Johnson and Lauren Levine executive producing. Amazon MGM Studios presents the film with Eat the Cat, Semi-Formal Productions, Shiny Penny, Somewhere Pictures and Heartbones Production.
What other Colleen Hoover adaptations are coming?
Verity joins a growing wave of Hoover adaptations at the box office. It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, kicked off the trend in 2024 and grossed more than $350 million worldwide, according to Variety. Regretting You, starring Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace and Dave Franco, followed with an October 2025 theatrical release, and Reminders of Him, based on Hoover’s 2022 novel, arrived in March. No further Hoover adaptations have been announced beyond Verity at this time.
When does ‘Verity’ premiere?
Verity opens exclusively in theaters Oct. 2.
