Lionsgate has released the trailer and poster for Splash City, a new crime drama set in San Francisco. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Alex Ferrufino and the first joint film between rapper Berner and 4 Ways Entertainment. The film opens in select theaters this summer.
What is ‘Splash City’ about?
According to the official description, the film follows “two brothers, Juju and Slim,” who “struggle to survive the streets of San Francisco, where loyalty can turn into betrayal in an instant. While Slim sees basketball as his way out, Juju falls deeper into a life of smash-and-grab robberies under the control of a backstabbing crew leader. As tensions rise, the brothers must choose between fighting for a brighter future or succumbing to the violent legacy that threatens to consume them both.”
Berner, who co-wrote the script and serves as executive producer, described the film as it was first coming together: “Splash City is a movie about the smash-and-grab culture and crew from the Fillmore district in San Francisco. It has the feel of the Bay Area’s version of New Jersey Drive meets Juice.” He added of his broader goals making films, “My goal in the film space is to bring the San Francisco Bay Area to life as I feel it’s untapped, and there are plenty of stories to tell,” per Variety.
The production placed an emphasis on casting Bay Area locals, per Variety.
