Universal’s Snoop Dogg biopic Snoop continues to build out its cast, adding Algee Smith as Warren G, as well as Laya DeLeon Hayes, Olly Sholotan, Corey Champagne and Jonica Booth in roles.
Smith’s casting was first broken by The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported the others. They join Jonathan Daviss as Snoop, Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur and Lauren London as Snoop’s mother.
Smith plays Warren G, the Grammy-nominated West Coast rapper. THR notes Warren G, whose real name is Warren Griffin III, played a pivotal role in Snoop Dogg’s early career: he formed the trio 213 with Snoop and Nate Dogg in the early 1990s, then introduced Snoop to Dr. Dre, who went on to mentor him.
Laya DeLeon Hayes will play Shante Broadus, Snoop’s wife. Olly Sholotan will play rapper Kurupt. Corey Champagne will play Nate Dogg, and Jonica Booth will play The Lady of Rage.
Craig Brewer directs from his rewrite of Joe Robert Cole’s original script. Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker produce, alongside Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum. Michael Beugg and Jeb Brody executive produce, with Ryan Jones and Tony Ducret overseeing the project for the studio. The film will incorporate music from Snoop Dogg’s catalog and marks the first project under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment.
Production is set to begin in mid-September in and around Los Angeles, according to THR.
Snoop opens in theaters Aug. 6, 2027.
