Natasha Rothwell Joins Jake Johnson And Damon Wayans Jr. In Hulu’s ‘Cable Guy’ Pilot

Natasha Rothwell has joined Hulu’s untitled Cable Guy pilot, inspired by the 1996 Jim Carrey film.

Deadline first broke the news. Rothwell will play Gina, “Steven’s sister — an oddball with a dark sense of humor who lives at home with their parents in the aftermath of an injury.”

The series follows old-school cable technician Chip Douglas (Jake Johnson), who “languishes alone — until Steven Stephens (Damon Wayans Jr.) calls to have his cable turned back on, reconnecting Chip with a childhood friend he never forgot. The relationship gives each man something he’s been missing… until Chip’s enthusiasm turns into obsession.” The show explores “the darkly absurd side of modern-day male friendship,” per Deadline.

Johnson and Wayans Jr. also executive produce alongside co-showrunners and co-writers Rob Rosell, Joe Piarulli and Luan Thomas. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film also executive produce. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

The project would put Rothwell back at Hulu, where she was creator, executive producer and star of How to Die Alone. She’s also starred in two seasons of HBO’s The White Lotus, and is likely most known for her role in HBO’s Insecure. She also has different projects she’s working on at her production questions, Big Hattie Productions.
