Netflix has released the official trailer and new images for its adaptation of Little House on the Prairie, the beloved Laura Ingalls Wilder book series. The series has also been renewed for a second season ahead of its Season 1 debut, with Season 2 introducing Nellie Oleson, played by Willa Dunn.
What is Netflix’s ‘Little House on the Prairie’ about?
According to the official logline, the series is “part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West,” offering “a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.” Season 1 follows the Ingalls family as they establish themselves on the prairie outside Independence, facing fever, wolves and fire — while also exploring the perspective of the Osage people whose land the settlers are moving onto, per Netflix’s Tudum.
Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine told Tudum: “I always like to say that this show is a love story about a family. They’re a family you want to be with, you want to know, you want to spend time with. That’s really at the core of what Little House on the Prairie is about: a family that is there for each other, tells stories to each other, tells stories about themselves.”
On the season’s expanded scope, Sonnenshine added: “It’s about people deciding who they want to be and looking for a better life. It leans into the idea that it’s never too late to do that.”
Who stars in ‘Little House on the Prairie’?
Alice Halsey leads the cast as Laura Ingalls, alongside Luke Bracey as her father Charles, Crosby Fitzgerald as her mother Caroline and Skywalker Hughes as her older sister Mary. The cast also includes Warren Christie, Jocko Sims, Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Meegwun Fairbrother, Wren Zahewenim Gotts, Barrett Doss and Mary Holland, among others.
Sonnenshine serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Joy Gorman Wettels and Trip Friendly, whose father Ed Friendly produced the original 1974 NBC television series. The series is produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content.
