Leslie Odom Jr. and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor have joined the cast of Get Lite, Teyana Taylor’s feature feature directorial debut at Paramount. Variety exclusively broke the news.
They join previously announced stars Storm Reid and NFL rookie-turned-actor Ceyair Wright. Khayr Bullock, Tylil James and Woody McClain have also been confirmed for the cast, per Variety, with Jodie Turner-Smith and Asante Blackk in negotiations for key roles.
What is ‘Get Lite’ about?
Per Variety, the film follows “a talented but sheltered dance student who finds inspiration, love and family in the last place he expected: the subways of New York City.” Wright plays the student caught between worlds, while Reid plays the girl who opens his life to new possibilities, according to the outlet. The film centers on Litefeet, a dance style that originated in Taylor’s hometown of Harlem.
Taylor directs from a screenplay by Maurice Williams, based on a spec script by Eric Gross that appeared on the Black List in 2020. Production is set to begin this month in New York City.
Taylor directs and executive produces, alongside producing partner Courtney “Coco” Gilbert under their banner The Aunties. Reid also produces, alongside Kenya Barris and Anni Weisband for Barris’ Khalabo Ink Society, Robyn Simpson for A Seed & Wings Productions, and Bill Karesh for Offbrnd.
When does ‘Get Lite’ premiere?
Get Lite is dated for a wide theatrical release Aug. 20, 2027.
