Denée Benton, Jasmin Savoy Brown Star In ‘Dreams In Nightmares,’ Which Just Dropped Its Trailer

The trailer has arrived for Dreams in Nightmares, the sophomore feature from writer-director Shatara Michelle Ford. Led by HBO’s The Gilded Age star Denée Benton, the film opens in New York this summer before expanding to Los Angeles and nationwide in September. The ensemble cast includes Yellowjackets star Jasmin Savoy Brown.

What is ‘Dreams in Nightmares’ about?

The film follows three Black queer femmes in their mid-thirties who set out on a road trip across the Midwest in search of a friend who has seemingly disappeared off the grid. According to the official description, the film is “equal parts tender character study and simmering thriller” that “puts Ford’s singular stamp on the American road movie.”

Who stars in ‘Dreams in Nightmares’?

Benton leads the cast alongside Mars Storm Rucker, Dezi Bing, Sasha Compère, Charlie Barnett, Molly Bernard, Alfie Fuller, Malek Mouzon, Joss Barton, Brown, Regina Taylor and Robert Wisdom.

The film marks Ford’s follow-up to their debut Test Pattern, which earned three Gotham Award nominations including Best Picture and three Independent Spirit Award nominations. Dreams in Nightmares made its world premiere as the opening night selection at the BlackStar Film Festival and has since screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, the British Film Institute, NewFest, Frameline and the Champs-Élysées Film Festival. Distributed by Lunette Films.

When does ‘Dreams in Nightmares’ open in theaters?

Dreams in Nightmares opens in New York on Aug. 21 and Los Angeles on Aug. 28, with a wider nationwide rollout in September.
