Lifetime is stacking its summer schedule with five new original movies, premiering on consecutive Saturdays at 8 p.m. ET from July through August. The slate spans thrillers, true crime and psychological drama, with Christina Milian, Danielle Panabaker, Tahirah Sharif, Sara Paxton and Marisol Nichols leading the respective films.
Milian also produces her entry, He Couldn’t Let Go, marking a producing credit alongside her starring role. Here’s a breakdown of what’s coming:
‘He Couldn’t Let Go’ (July 11)
Christina Milian stars as Mariana, a woman whose ability to read body language helps her escape a terrifying ordeal after an intense work encounter leaves a disgruntled colleague on the run. Steven Strait, Annie Gonzalez and Gregg Wayans also star. It is produced by FOX Entertainment Studios in association with Neon Kite. Cory Miller directs from a script he co-wrote with Rob Belushi.
‘Crowning at the Prom’ (July 18)
Inspired by real events, the film follows Abigail (Danielle Panabaker), a devoted single mother whose teenage daughter Kat (Anwen O’Driscoll) is “on the brink of prom queen glory and a coveted athletic scholarship.” According to the official description, “while concealing a late-term pregnancy and struggling under the weight of her pursuit of perfection, Kat’s carefully controlled world begins to unravel.” Claire Qute also stars. It is produced by Neshama Entertainment in association with Fox Entertainment Studios and directed by Michelle Ouellet.
‘Girl in the Coffin’ (July 25)
Tahirah Sharif and Robert James-Collier star. According to the official description, after the death of her mother, Jasmine (Sharif) “finds comfort in Bill (James-Collier), the compassionate funeral director who handled her mother’s service. But beneath Bill’s kindness lies a dangerous obsession as he believes they are destined to be together. When Jasmine suddenly disappears, she awakens trapped inside a coffin beneath Bill’s funeral home.” Inspired by real events. It is produced by ITN Productions UK for Lifetime and directed by Jermain Julien.
‘Killer Clown’ (Aug. 1)
Sara Paxton stars as Elizabeth Helmer, who, “decades after witnessing her mother’s brutal murder at the hands of the ‘Killer Clown,’ remains haunted by the crime that shattered her childhood. When she begins investigating the long-unsolved cold case, Elizabeth becomes the target of a terrifying copycat stalker.” David Cubitt and Hamza Haq also star. The film is inspired by real stories. It is produced by Muse Entertainment for Lifetime and directed by Annie Bradley.
‘She Stole My Son’s Heart’ (Aug. 8)
Marisol Nichols and Taylor Hickson star. According to the official description, after Maria (Hickson) mysteriously disappears while in need of a heart transplant, “homicide and missing persons detective Vicky (Nichols) and her rookie partner, Chloe (Megan Peta Hill), are assigned to the case. With Maria’s time running out, it becomes a race to uncover the truth behind Maria’s disappearance before her failing heart gives out.” It is directed by Caitlyn Sponheimer from a script by Lucy Luna.
