Rafael Castillo and Christopher Ammanuel are set star in Crossroad Blues, a supernatural horror short film that ties hip-hop to the blues. Moon Ferguson directs the short, which begins filming next month.
According to the official description, “Crossroad Blues is a supernatural horror short film that blends Southern Gothic atmosphere with modern hip-hop culture to examine ambition, sacrifice, and the price of success.”
The film follows Pressure, “an aspiring rapper trying to get his break while his family depends on him financially. When he comes across a haunted blues record, he’s drawn into the world of Jericho Slim, a dead blues musician who offers him fortune and fame in exchange for his soul.”
Ferguson said, “In this film, we confront a haunting question: What happens when an artist’s desperate hunger to be seen and validated consumes them so entirely that they become willing to sacrifice their very humanity, voice, and soul to achieve it?”
Castillo stars as Pressure, and Ammanuel plays the ghost of Jericho Slim.
Ferguson directs, and Jayla Genae produces. Messiah “Buddy Red” Harris is executive producer and is creating an original song for the film’s soundtrack.
Crossroad Blues is in development and begins filming in November.
