Sterling K. Brown has signed on to The Comebacker, the Sony Pictures baseball drama starring Tom Hanks and Callum Turner. The Hollywood Reporter officially broke the news. Brown will play the manager of the team at the center of the film, which Marielle Heller is directing from her own script.

The film is adapted from a short story by Dave Eggers, author of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, and is being described as a love letter to baseball. It centers on the relationship between a New York Mets pitching coach (Hanks) and his pitcher (Turner), who is struck by a line drive while on the mound, per THR.

Brown joins Hanks and Turner, along with Patricia Clarkson and Amy Madigan. Clarkson plays the coach’s wife, and Madigan plays the owner of the team.

Aside from his starring role in Hulu’s Paradise, Brown soon stars with Natalie Portman in Roadside Attractions’ The Gallerist and appear in Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action Voltron.

Gary Goetzman of Playtone produces with Heller and Leah Holzer of Defiant By Nature. Major League Baseball and the Mets are also involved. Working Barn executive produces with Charles Miller.
